This is the one, the very first botanical I purchased decades ago. It was the beginning of a new career, a new life dwelling among the antique prints & maps at The Allery in Toronto, Ontario. In those days, I really couldn't afford such things, I did not eat for a week just to have it! This is a crazy kind of passion, collecting small bits of history, and when you dive into it you realize how vast a sea it is! My love for botanical art began here with this beautiful hand colored engraving from c.1812-30 drawn by B. Cotton, engraved by William Say. I wanted to share this Amaryllis with you, seems fitting since this is my first blog post. I would have never imagined in 1987 that I'd be creating an E-commerce website and writing this blog today. It was meant to be!
